Autumn Seminar Series
Conservation does not occur in isolation. It is shaped by the wider political, economic, technological, and societal forces that are transforming the world around us. The Conservation Geopolitics Forum (CGF) provides a platform for exploring these relationships and advancing conservation geopolitics as an emerging field of inquiry.
Organised around four themes—Theory, People, Place, and Futures—the 2026 seminar series will examine how geopolitical change reshapes conservation ethics and governance, influences public engagement with biodiversity, affects ecological connectivity and spatial conservation planning, and creates new challenges and opportunities for conservation in the years ahead. By bringing together scholars and practitioners from diverse disciplines, CGF 2026 seeks to build new conversations at the intersection of conservation and global change.

About the organiser
Dr Ewan Macdonald is the Kadas Senior Research Fellow in Conservation Geopolitics at Worcester College. His interdisciplinary research programme focuses on conservation geopolitics: understanding how large-scale transformations in the global political order shape conservation through Theory, People, Place, and Futures. This includes the implications of geopolitical change for conservation ethics and governance, its influence on public engagement with biodiversity, the ways geopolitical processes affect ecological connectivity and spatial conservation planning, and the identification of emerging forces that may reshape conservation in the future.
